KalendarKards and Memory Cafe Directory
Covered in CHOICES Senior Living Magazine!
Choices is a publication of Julien’s Journal, based in Dubuque, Iowa. It is a wonderful lifestyle magazine, dedicated to sharing important and life-enriching information with the people of Dubuque and the entire Tri-State region since 1976. Since they have an online presence, the valuable materials they publish are of course available to everyone.
We are very proud to have our KalendarKards Memory Support System, along with our Memory Cafe Directory featured in the Winter 2017 edition of Choices!
KalendarKards Memory Support System
On pages 6 and 7 of Choices, KalendarKards is described in the “Holiday Gifts for Seniors” article. We are mentioned along with many other great ideas, ranging from experiential gifts like theater tickets and a spa day, to memberships and a wide array of other activities.
Speaking of activities, it would be good to share how we were found to be interviewed about KalendarKards. Mindy Dalgarn is an Advertising Representative and Guest Writer for Choices and it was she who reached out to us for the KalendarKards gift idea coverage.
We got to know Mindy in another capacity. She is the founder of Pieces of the Past Puzzles, a “reminiscence activity for those with memory loss.” These are large-piece jigsaw puzzles that help support improved dexterity, concentration, and memory.
You really need to check out Pieces of the Past to see how they can help your loved one.
Memory Cafe Directory
Starting on page 9 of Choices is “Memory Cafes Promote Social Interaction.” Mindy explains all about Memory Cafes – their origins, benefits, operations, and more. This is a great way to learn more about them.
Appropriately cited is the challenge facing many who could benefit from a Memory Cafe: how do you find one convenient to you?
On page 13, you can see how we solved that dilemma! There, she shares our perspectives of why we created a national Memory Cafe Directory. Today, with nearly 400 Cafes listed all across the country, many people are finding one conveniently located right in their own neighborhood.
There are many ways to engage and enrich your loved one’s environment – Pieces of the Past and KalendarKards are merely two examples. Read through the publication and you should find many other great ideas.
Many thanks to Mindy Dalgarn, Choices Senior Living Magazine, and Julie’s Journal!
